Week-end d'échange avec les Allemands de Kindsbach / Weekend visit for the Germans of Kindsbach

Grandcamp-Maisy est jumelé avec Kindsbach, un village de 2500 habitants situé dans le Palatinat, juste au nord de l'Alsace.


Cette année, c'était au tour des Grandcopais de recevoir les familles allemandes. Une petite cérémonie de bienvenue était organisée pour leur arrivée Jeudi.
Vendredi matin, une centaine de personnes ont pris le bateau pour l'ile de Tatihou pour une journée de visite. Le soir, Pierrette Monnier et Walter Wittenmeier, tous deux présidant leur association de jumelage, ainsi que Donauer Mathias, Bürgermeisters et Serge Bigot, maire de Grandcamp-Maisy, ont présidé un diner-dansant.
Après un samedi en famille, le dimanche commença par un office religieux suivi d'une visite au cimetière de La Cambe.




L'année prochaine, ce sera le 30e anniversaire du jumelage, et les Grandcopais se rendront en Allemagne.

Grandcamp-Maisy is associated with Kindsbach, a village of 2500 inhabitants in the Palatinate region of Germany, just North of Alsace.
This year, the Grandcopais were hosts to the German families.
They arrive on Thursday to a short welcome ceremony. Friday morning, about a hundred people left for the island of Tatihou on a boating excursion. That evening, Pierrette Monnier and Walter Wittenmeier, both presidents of their twinning association, and Donauer Mathias, Bürgermeister of Kindsbach, and Serge Bigot, mayor of Grandcamp-Maisy, presided over a diner and dance party.
After a Saturday spent with the host families, Sunday started with a religious service followed by a visit to the German Cemetery at La Cambe.
Next year will mark the 30th anniversary of the association between Grandcamp-Maisy and Kindsbach, and the Grandcopais will travel to Germany.

Le Colonel Rudder prend la route /The Colonel Rudder gets on the road

Sous un ciel triste, Le Colonel Rudder a quitté Grandcamp, non pas par la mer, de ses propres moyens, mais sur un camion-remorque.

Le Colonel Rudder a, pendant des années, emmené visiteurs et touristes pour des croisières vers la Pointe du Hoc et Omaha Beach, dans la Baie des Veys, et jusqu'à St-Vaast-la-Hougue et les Iles St-Marcouf. Voilà quelques années, il perdit son permis de navigation, et il resta dans un coin du port.

Il va maintenant échanger le cidre bouché du Bessin pour les grands vins de Bordeaux.

C'est en effet à Pauillac, au bord de la Gironde, qu'il va se retrouver à l'eau pour faire des croisières au milieu des vignobles.

It's under a cloudy sky that the Colonel Rudder left Grandcamp, not by sea, but on a trailer.

For many years, the Colonel Rudder took visitors to Grandcamp on short cruises to the pointe du Hoc and Omaha Beach, or into the Bay of Isigny, and ventured out to the St-Marcouf Islands and St-Vaast-la-Hougue. A few years ago, it was declared unfit to sail the seas, and it stayed in a corner of the harbor.

Now, it is going to trade the Normandy cider for the great wines of Bordeaux.

It is leaving for Pauillac, on the Gironde, half-way between Bordeaux and the ocean, where it will sail amidst the vineyards.

L'Epi: Pas avant Septembre/ The pier: Not before September

L'épi, endommagé par les tempêtes l'automne dernier, ne va pas être réparé avant le mois de Septembre, pour ne pas nuire à la fréquentation de la plage pendant l'été.

Relique d'un temps où les grandes barques débarquaient leur poisson à ses pieds, sur la cale de galets, les Grandcopais y sont très attachés. La commune vient de recevoir un devis de 74.780 € pour le refaire à l'identique, en chêne. Le conseil général accorde une subvention de 35% pour ces travaux, le reste étant à la charge de la commune.

The pier, damaged during severe storms last fall, will not be repaired until September, as the municipality does not want to restrict access to the beach during the summer season.

Relic of a past when the fishing boats unloaded their catch at its feet, the Grandcopais see the pier as a symbol of their village. The municipality just received a bid of 74,780 € to rebuild it in oak, just as it was. The Regional Council will pay 35%, the rest being at the charge of the town.
