Fermé depuis dix ans, le blockhaus allemand sur lequel se dresse le monument des Rangers, lieu emblématique du Débarquement, est ouvert aux visites tous les jours, de 9 h à 16 h 30.
Il aura fallu un an de travaux pour sécuriser la falaise qui menaçait de s'écrouler sous les assauts répétés des tempêtes.
Les travaux furent financés par les Etats-Unis.
L'inauguration officielle aura lieu le 06 juin 2011.
Last week, the observation post at the Point du Hoc, near Englesqueville-la-Percée, was again open to the public, and Bertrand went to have a look. He rediscovered the plaque honoring the Rangers of the 2nb Battalion who fell here on D-Day, and for the childrren, it was the first time they had a chance to step inside the bunker.
Closed for the last 10 years, the German bunker that supports the Rangers Monument is open every day from 9am to 4;30 pm.
It took a full year of constant work to reinforce the cliff that was crumbling under the repeated assaults of the storms.
The U.S. Congress financed the preservation of the site.
The official opening will take place on June 6, 2011.
